Measurements are taken with fabric laying flat, and does not include any stretch of the fabric. Keep in mind it is a stretchy fabric and will stretch over more voluptuous parts of your body. My chest measures 43" at the widest part and I wear the L. It is slim fitting on me (5'4" and 170lbs.)
